Jules HOROWITZ reactor - Polar bridge

Polar Bridge in the reactor building.

Intended for the Jules Horowitz experimental nuclear power plant in Cadarache, the polar bridge is located in the BUR (Reactor Building) above the nuclear reactor.

COMETE-J.PARIS designed and manufactured this polar bridge according to strong safety and quality requirements linked to the nuclear field (High level of safety - Level 1).

It is made up of 2 lifting systems with a capacity of 36 T for one and 6 T for the second. Its range is 34 m.

HIGH SECURITY BRIDGES

  • 2 high security level 1 bridges : 45 and 25 tonnes.
  • 1 level 2 high security bridge : 0.5 tonnes with an on-board telescopic basket for personnel.

In consortium with SPRETEC.

Design, supply and installation of a polar bridge with its track.

It is made up of a rotating structure (rotating quadrilateral) – made up of a double beam and box springs.

This structure moves on a circular rail placed on a raceway on consoles in the upper part of the BUR ; a radial structure (rolling quadrilateral) – made up of a double beam and two bed bases.

This structure circulates radially on the above "rotating quadrilateral" structure; a trolley carrying two winches – CMU 360 kN and 60 kN. This carriage moves transversely on the radial structure.

Means used :

  • Precise analysis of all functions in order to offer equipment that meets performance safety requirements and SDF and SLI studies.
  • Modeling of the entire RMP overhead crane in order to calculate and size the structure for earthquakes, followed by finite element verifications.
  • Identification and monitoring of each in order to guarantee the total traceability of the work.
  • Factory capacity : Presentation of the entire running beam (plus rail) in the workshop in order to obtain (after machining) and report a perfect geometric layout (accuracy to a few millimeters), General and functional presentation of the RMP bridge. Very advanced machining and geometric control in order to obtain the rotation function of the RMP bridge.
